A carpet fitter who supplies and fits
Most people do not want two trips to a carpet shop, a separate fitter and three phone numbers. Fitzgerald Flooring does the whole job as one package: we bring carpet and underlay samples to your home so you can see the colour in your own light, measure every room and staircase properly, give you one written price, then fit it ourselves with quality underlay, new gripper and tidy thresholds. If you have already bought carpet, we are happy to quote for fitting only.
We are based in Isleworth and work across West London every week, so a visit to measure is a short drive rather than a diary problem. The person who quotes is the person who fits, which is why the finish is consistent and why you get a straight answer about what a floor needs before anything is ordered.

Carpet types we supply
Wool and wool-mix for warmth, resilience and a natural look that suits period houses in Richmond, Kew and Chiswick. Polypropylene twist for family rooms and rentals where stain resistance and price matter. Loop pile for a tidy, modern, hard-wearing finish on stairs and hallways. Herringbone and patterned carpets for staircases and hallways where you want the carpet to be the feature. Saxony and deep pile for bedrooms. Not sure which is right? How we fit a carpet
- Uplift and remove the old carpet and underlay, and check the subfloor for loose boards, nails and damp.
- Fit new gripper around every edge and on each stair, and fix door bars and thresholds.
- Lay the right underlay for the room, taped and trimmed, never reused old underlay.
- Cut, join and stretch the carpet so it sits tight, with seams placed where they will not show.
- Trim and tuck the edges, fit the stair nosings and leave the room tidy and vacuumed.

Stairs and landings
Stairs are the hardest part of any carpet job and the part people notice most. We fit full-width stair carpet and stair runners with bound edges, borders and rods, on straight, winding and curved staircases, and we match the landing so the join at the top step is clean. We quote in writing after measuring, with the scope listed, so the price on the quote is the price on the invoice.

Carpet fitting questions
How much does carpet fitting cost?
It depends on the carpet grade, underlay, room sizes, stairs and preparation, so we quote every job in writing after measuring. Send photos and rough sizes by WhatsApp and we can give an early guide before the visit.
Do you supply the carpet or just fit it?
Both. Most customers choose supply and fit: samples at home, measured, quoted in writing and fitted with quality underlay by the same team. Fitting only is fine if you have already bought the carpet.
How long does carpet fitting take?
A bedroom is usually a couple of hours. A straight staircase and landing is normally a day once the carpet is in. Whole houses and winding stairs take longer and the quote says how long.
Do you take the old carpet away?
Yes. We uplift and dispose of the old carpet and underlay, check the subfloor and fit new gripper before the new carpet goes down. Ask for it in the quote and it is included.
Which underlay should I have?
It depends on the room. Bedrooms suit a softer, thicker underlay; stairs and hallways need a denser, firmer one so the carpet stays put and wears evenly. We recommend a grade per area rather than one default. See our underlay guide.
Can you fit carpet on stairs with a landing and winders?
Yes. Stairs are most of what we do. Winders, bullnoses, open-string stairs and runners with borders are all regular jobs, and we cut and join so the pattern runs true.
